Omega-3 fatty acids are unsaturated “essential fatty acids” that humans must obtain through foods.
The United States Pharmacopeia and the National Formulary (USP 43-NF 38*) lists an analysis method for oligomers, which are impurities found in “Omega-3 Free Fatty Acids”. The method uses three columns that are filled with L21 packing materials, connected in series. The system suitability requires the resolution (Rs) between monodocosahexaenoin and didocosahexaenoin to be ≥2.0, and the Rs between didocosahexaenoin and tridocosahexaenoin to be ≥1.0.
The analysis using a combination of GPC KF-802.5, KF-802 and KF-801 fulfills all required system suitability conditions.
